We arrive at week 9 of the iRacing 2024, Season 4. This one will definitely be highlighted with some outstanding racing opportunities for the sports car drivers. Some of the most popular tracks are on the schedule for the week. Open wheel racers will have possibly less popular, but still great racing opportunities.
Let’s immediately look at what’s likely to be the most popular series of the week, and that’s none other than the IMSA iRacing Series at Sebring International Raceway! Sebring is one of the most popular tracks on iRacing and it’s great for multiclass racing as well, so it’s not a surprise to say that this will be possibly the most raced series of the week. Both prototype drivers and GT3 drivers will be enjoying this one! The series is available for both fixed and open setup races.
Those who enjoy GT3 racing but are not interested in racing in a multiclass series, will also have a very good option. The GT3 Sprint Series will be racing at Watkins Glen International, on the Boot layout. No different to Sebring, Watkins Glen is also one of the most popular tracks on iRacing and is enjoyed by many of the racers. High participation for the races is guaranteed here as well. A big twist for the races though, is that the open setup series has an 82% chance of rain during the races! This will make each race exciting!
And as usual for this series, we also have a “hidden gem” for those who are interested in doing something different. For this week that is a great challenge, because our recommendation for that is the GTE Sprint Series at Nürburgring Combined. This layout includes both the Nürburgring GP track and the Nordschleife. GTE cars have considerably more downforce compared to the GT3 cars and pushing these cars around this legendary circuit will be an amazing experience.
For our open wheel section of the article for this week, we look at the series that are usually the most popular in this category. This is none other than the Super Formula and Super Formula Light Series.
Both will be visiting the Suzuka International Racing Course which is a fantastic combination of car and track. Suzuka is often said to be the best track to drive around with high downforce cars and these cars certainly are that, so the fun is guaranteed! The races are expected to be without rain for this week.
If someone is interested in driving an even higher downforce car, then we can recommend the iRacing Grand Prix Series at Silverstone Circuit. Just like Suzuka, one of the best tracks to drive around with a high downforce car. The combination of extremely high speed corners with slow sections is a great test of driving skill and the track layout allows for great battles as well.
Finally, a recommendation for new open wheel drivers. The FIA Formula 4 Challenge races will be held at the Tsukuba Circuit this week. Tsukuba is a freely available track on iRacing, which means that it will likely have high participation numbers as it is easy to get into. This can be a great opportunity for you to start your open wheel racing journey!
As always, good luck for the racing and hope to see you on track!
